Top benefits of online learning at home

It’s fair to say the pandemic hit everyone hard. It forced us to change our way of life, including work, socialising and learning. According to a statistic by Oxford College, online learning astoundingly increased by 200% due to the pandemic. Some people do argue that this is bad for students, however there are actually a lot of benefits of online learning. Here’s a short list with some of the key benefits of online learning.

Flexibility

With online learning, you get the flexibility of learning anywhere. For most students, this is done in the comfort of their own home. But this could be anywhere you please, or more importantly anywhere that’s quiet! The key benefit here is that you’re not locked down to being in the same physical space each lesson. All you need is a laptop and a quiet room. Also, there’s no longer a need to waste time in traffic and money on petrol!

Better communication with the teacher

This is one of the biggest benefits of online learning. Your child gets to communicate easily with the teacher in a one-to-one environment without worrying about physical distractions or other people in the room. Online learning creates a safe space between the student and teacher.

Better learning environment

At home, you can adjust to the learning environment to fully meet the needs of your child. This allows you as a parent to ensure that your child is in the best learning position, and you do not have to worry. This also means you as the parent are available in the house if there are any issues.

Better Motivation

It’s easy for kids to get distracted at home… it’s easy enough for me at least. Having a lesson at a specific time helps them build their time management skills and motivates them to work in their own home and beat their distractions.

Broader perspective

Another benefit of online learning is that your kids will have a broader perspective. Online learning gives you access to teachers from different locations. This could be a few streets away, a different city, or even a different country. Different perspectives help ground a child’s understanding of the world and are crucial to development.

Top tip: Make sure you find a tutor who can offer a new perspective, but also understands your specific school/learning situation.

Better Concentration

No distraction from friends at school or rushing to get somewhere on time means that your kids will focus on their learning. This will help develop better concentration skill both inside and outside of lessons.

Wider range of knowledge

Online learning allows students to choose from a wide range of classes around the globe. This could include topics that aren’t taught in your local area.

Easy access to other sources

The last benefit of online learning on this list is that it’s easier to access information when you’re not restricted. At home, when a child doesn’t understand a subject and the teacher isn’t available, they can go online and look for sources of information. This can be incredibly helpful for children as it encourages problem solving and independent learning.
